Discover how algae can save the world through the work of the Algonauts, a diverse global community of people working on the potential of algae. Chronicled by The Algonauts Project since 2010.

Who are we?

Anne-Gaëlle Jacquin

I am a marine biologist and my homeport is Plogoff, a village in Brittany at the Western tip of Europe where the ocean is all around! In this end/beginning of the land, there are wilderness and quietness, wonderful lights and also powerful storms. I am fascinated by the nature, the universe and life as a whole, from the complexity of cellular mechanisms to our human societies. Science gives us so many keys for understanding the world, it is a treasure that we should share! I obtained my PhD from the University of Western Brittany in France and I felt then the need to look at the big picture. Microalgae or seaweeds are fundamental in ecosystems, they could play an even bigger role in the future for sustainability. After my PhD, when the reputation of algae was very negative due to green tides, I started a journey around the world to share the wonders of algae. This website is the on going result of this quest!
